Marple Locks Festival, Sunday, June 30th 2013
The Biannual Locks Festival was held on the Canal and Marple Memorial Park on Sunday June 30th by the Marple Locks Heritage Society. The Society was born out of the need to celebrate and co-ordinate the Marple Locks bi-centenary in 2003.
The event included trips on the canal with many local societies having displays of their activities, sales of craft products and much more. The sun shone and crowds of people had a great time
The Trust had a manned gazebo with location photos of the sites included in the ‘Revealing Oldknow’s Legacy’ lottery bid. We also displayed some of the artefacts from the mill excavations.
We had many visitors, including the mayor. There was a great deal of interest in the project.
